Deer and Game Hunting in Wicklow

springer spanielHere at the wicklow way we get a lot of enquiries about hunting in Wicklow from people looking to hunt deer or pheasant, game and so on . It is suprisingly dfifficult to gather information on this so if you have or know of any good gaming grounds or deer stalking lands in Wicklow or surrounding areas then please send us in the details to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. In the meantime here is what we have gathered so far:

This Irish man (now based between Ireland and Texas) offers a fantastic sounding array of hunting holiday options just a short drive from Wicklow off the newly opened Kildare Bypass. An avid Hunter himself he  now runs  Broomfield Lodge in Broomfield, Moone, Co Kildare.

Deer stalking:

As he says himself he likes to keep the lodge full of hunter and fishermen as much as possible. They organise deer stalking all over Ireland, for red stag, skia stag, fallow stag etc.

Game Shooting:

They also cater to bird shooters aswell with hunting available for pheasant, woodcock, snipe, duck, pigeon, rabbit and fox, and they also do ferriting for rabbits where hunters can shoot the bolting rabbits from their warrens.

Fishing:

Broomfield Lodge also cater for the Fishing enthusiast with Salmon, Trout and Course fishing pike, breem and such, alongwith deep sea fishing.

A little more about Broomfield Lodge Hunting Holidays:

"We hunt all over Ireland for deer, Wicklow, the Slieve Bloom Mountains, Kinnity, Kerry, Donegal...We keep a staff of 10 gillies on the books at all times, we can cater to the single hunter or groups of up to 12 hunters at a time.

We have hunting guests come in from all over the world every year. We organise all of the stalking licenses for the hunters, import permits for their firearms and we take care of them from touch down at the airport until we drop them back at the airport.

We have been doing this for the past 17 years and if hunters would like to go to different destinations around the world hunting, we cater to that as well. This is what we do full time and we are serious about what we do.

Well! I think it certainly shows that these guys know what they like and are obviously very good at it. so if your looking for a hunting experience in Wicklow Ireland then why not contact them at :

Wicklow Walks – Devils Glen Ashford Co Wicklow

Today ( Sat 25 April 2009) Myself and Skippy set off for an optomistic ( It won’t rain it won’t) walk in the Devils Glen Woods in Ashford Co Wicklow – Home to the Sculpture in Woodland Project.

Having been there before we knew to expect to see some really gorgeous bluebells  and we were not disappointed! Firstly no rain and secondly the mirage of bluebell carpet as seen in the photo gallery for this page ( click here >>) was truly breathtaking. The gorgeous smells of the bluebells was heavenly.

We met a good few people enjoying this family friendly wicklow walk- There was a (seriously) yummy mummy with a gaggle of kids and they all seemed to be having a great time, plus some older folks enjoying a picnic at the waterfall. A very adventurous and excitied young springer (dog) came hounding Skippy but he then shot off to muckier lands – much to skippys relief!

We took a load of photos which are now up on the photo gallery page of our blog so you can have  a look and get an idea of what the walk is like. It took us approx 45 mins tho we did push ourselves a bit -  LOL – you can walk for 2 hours if you want to (slowly) and we had a throughly enjoyable afternoon thru the slightly mucky ground.

Yes by the way, usually it is fairly muddy here so wear your wellies or old trainers!! See you around,

p.s. if someone lost their hat its still there!!
