A well attended AGM of the Granite Golf Society was held in Joe O’Tooles in Aughrim on Wednesday night last, 13th October. Secretary, Jim O’Driscoll reported on a very successful, if somewhat challenging, year. The difficult economic climate had put many members under pressure and the secretary advised that for the coming year the Society would need to ‘box clever’ and keep expense down wherever possible. Treasurer, James O’Toole, reported a healthy financial balance. Prior to the election of officers, out-going President of the Society, Tommy Larkin explained the he was not in a position to go forward for election this year. The members present thanked Tommy for his contribution and thanks was also expressed to outgoing Captain, Brendan Byrne.

It was decided to reduce this year’s membership fee by more than 25% and the in-coming committee were also requested to draw up a list of more local golf courses for consideration at the first meeting of this new committee.

The election of officers for the coming year resulted in the following committee being put in place:

President – Christy Hughes.
Captain – Hugh Doyle.
Secretary – Jim O’Driscoll.
Treasurer – James O’Toole.
Handicap Secretary – David Galbraith.
PRO – Liam O’Loughlin.
Committee Members – Tommy Larkin, Christine Galbraith, Kit Keogh, Gerry Byrne and Brendan Byrne.
