Laragh Glendalough District Notes for 30th  April

Car Boot Sale

Car Boot Sales are held on the first Sunday of the month - the next one will take place on Sunday 6 May (11 am until 4 pm).  Vans must be booked in.  Contact the Brockagh Centre on 0404-45600.

Information Meeting Midsummer Festival

Following the resounding success of the ‘Lantern Walk’ and the ‘Fireside Sessions’, the Glendalough Arts Network are proud to pres­ent an exciting new event to be held in locally, designed to promote local arts, heritage, food and enterprise - A Midsummer Festival.

There will be an information evening on Wednesday 2 May at 8 pm in the lobby of Lynhams Hotel.   This community event will feature Music, Family Games, a Market for Arts and Crafts, Workshops, Local Produce and much more.......... Please come along to our information night if you are interested in hearing more about this fun family event or would like to be a volun­teer, stallholder, performer or sponsor.

G&DDA AGM

The Glendalough and District Development Association are holding their AGM on Wednesday 23  May in the Brockagh Centre at 8 pm.  All Welcome.

Glendalough Craft Market

The next Glendalough  Food & Craft Market takes place on Sunday 13 May in the Brockagh Resource Centre from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.  As well as your favourites there will also be some new stalls.  Come along and enjoy a nice day out and our annual Dog Show takes place that day too.  For more information call 0404 45600

Doggie’s Day Out

Our annual Doggie’s Day Out dog show will be held at the market on the 13 May at 2.30 in the Brockagh Resource Centre Laragh in aid of ASH Animal Rescue, registration will start at 2pm and we will have face painting, dog portraits and other pet themed stalls.  Lots of fun categories  and a big raffle.  We  hope to see lots of our four legged friends on the day. Garden Workshop Series

Starting date extended to Friday 4 May.  Suzie Cahn an experienced organic grower, community facilitator and educator from Carraig Dúlra is coming back to the Brockagh to teach a series of Organic Gardening Workshops. Open to people with any level of experience or gardening ambition, from the large plot holder to the window box grower, individuals, families or groups. The series promises to be interesting and fun, helping as many people as possible enjoy the experience of growing some of their own food.

This initiative is supported by Wicklow VEC Community Education, The Brockagh Resource Centre and the Newly Formed ‘Making Our Community Sustainable Group’.  There will be 5 x 2 hr sessions on Friday mornings at 10 a.m. starting Friday April 20 covering the following areas - Setting yourself up to grow, Herbs and Salads; Working with plants; Avoiding Problems: pests, diseases, companion planting, ecological gardening for diversity; Keeping down the weeds:  uses, green manures, mulching and cover crops.  Cost of course 20 euro.  15 euro for unemployed.  Call Brockagh (0404) 45600 to book your place.

Experience the Spirit of St. Kevin

To celebrate the Feast of St. Kevin, Glendalough Hermitage Centre and friends are holding a day of Pilgrim Prayer on Saturday 2 June (eve of the feast day).  All are welcome.  People can choose from different experiences of prayer: Pilgrim Walk, Healing Prayer, Wisdom of Kevin, Adoration, Loving Kindness, Sacred Movement, Lectio Divina, Centering Prayer, Mastering Meditation.  The day will finish with Eucharist in St. Kevin’s Parish Church at 7 pm followed by Taizé Prayer in the Cathedral in the Monastic Site at 8.30 pm – the guest speaker is Fr. Get Ireland On Line

Laragh IT is offering a 6hr course at a reduced rate of €20 (partially funded by ICS).  This course is an introduction to going online using social networking, searching for topics you are interested in, emailing and more...If you still have a fear or are confused about using the internet then this is the course for you. Laragh IT

Laragh IT do courses in from Beginners, intermediate, Intternet & Email.  Introduction to Social Media – Facebook, You Tube, ECDL.  We also offer customised course and one to one.  Call (0404) 45600 for more information.

Citizen’s Information

The Citizen’s Information Centre at the Brockagh Centre is open on 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month. The next date is Tuesday 15 May 10am until 12 noon for information relating to your rights and entitlements.  No appointment necessary.  This is a free and confidential service

Brockagh Circuit Training

Get Fit, Lose Weight, Feel Good. Circuit Training takes place on Tuesday in the Brockagh Centre from 6.45-7.45 p.m. Call Peter on 087 6319686 for further information or to book your place.

Tuesday Night - Dance Night

The Wicklow Man is at the Brockagh Centre every Tuesday night from 9.30 p.m.

AA Meetings

Closed AA Meetings are held in the Brockagh Resource Centre in Laragh at 8.30 p.m. every Monday night.  If you think that you may have a problem with alcohol please come along.
